Finally… Amiando!

I talked in the past about trying to find an open source, free and complete alternative to expensive EM software.  Well Amiando it’s the closest solution to that. They have released a new version of the already great platform. I must admit it kicks asses, to use an allegoric phrase.

Don’t get me wrong, I still think an open source solution would be great but these guys did exceptionally well.

Who should use Amiando?

Mostly those working with events up to 400 people, both professional and not. If you don’t want to bother yourself with messy accounting and looking for a straightforward solution, it does not get any better than this, should you organize a party, a meeting or a conference.

Flexibility

They created a module system in which you add the modules you need. That answers to one of the most painful issues with events. Every event needs different organizational tools. The platform is flexible enough to accommodate very different needs.

Ticketing

They started with the ticketing service and then expanded on that. They addressed the major issue with Paypal. A lot of organizers had troubles with using Paypal for ticketing. They keep Paypal as an option, but they developed their internal payment system in which they take care about everything, invoicing and International VAT charges included. Wow.

Web 2.0 and Social integration

Finally I don’t have the feeling of being in 1997 while looking at an online platform. These guys nailed the concept of integration with Social Media and Networks. You can actually add Youtube videos or Flickr photos. If you use Facebook you are pretty much used to that but in our field we are talking big news! You are actually able to share information on major social networking websites, get buttons to promote your event as well as

Support

There is a free of charge number to avoid mess ups.

Directions

Very easy just add the address of the location and a Google map.

It's the first time I hear of Amiando, it looks great and I'll definitely try it out. Do you think it would help me with my internal corporate meetings? Has it got a video conferencing feature? THANKS FOR POSTING!
  • Hi Carmen

I think it's great for corporate meetings, specially if you are the only person in charge.

If you mean stream over the internet, that is a cool feature to embed soon!

If you register with Ustream you can embed the player in your event page as they have HTML modules

I just stumbled across this website last week. I'm glad to see you wrote a good review about it. So far, we're really happy with it! The phone support seems to be really good too.
    grazie a te!
  • Danielle,

the guys working at it are great and very attentive to customer feedback. What would you like to be added to the service?

Maybe this is a good spot to talk about it,

    Ciao!

Well - one thing I was talking to customer service about was enabling interactive seating plans/charts so that people registering for the event could select their seat. We don't usually need this for our events, but it just so happens we do for this upcoming one, so that would be nice. I'm sure once we're knee-deep into the registration/event, I'll have more feature requests. :-)
  • Great noted down!

I will be posting soon again on how to add cool features thanks to the HTML feature.

    Hey Julius,

Nice blog, I used many tools you mentioned, recently started using Eventbee, they made me switch with $1 per ticket pricing model. You should review it

  • Hey Steve,

we all know the platform, although I won't talk about switching. Don't get me wrong, I am very biased here as I work for amiando, but we are talking about two different services.

I see your suggestion as a great solution for fundraising events, amiando instead is the most complete online event planning tool and ticketing is just a part of it.

Rose from The Fresh Tip has reviewed your platform, as I know you are somewhat involved with it (they magically started to follow me on twitter just after your comment). It's a great review I suggest you have a look.

The link to Rose's blog is on my blogroll!

    Thanks

  • Thanks Julius,
Been looking everywhere for an opensource solution to comprehensive event management.

CiviCRM (which plugs into Joomla and Drupal, or runs standalone) has the best I've managed to find.

This Amiando is, however, now the best commercial solution I've seen and I've created an account there in order to manage two events we have coming up. So thanks for the tip.

I see you work for Amiando. Does that mean your hands are now off the task of finding/creating/organising an opensource solution?

    Cheers,
    Jonathan
  • Thanks Jonathan fir giving me the chance to say that I no longer work for amiando and that the quest is fully on for an open source solution

I am planning to rewiew several Drupal apps. I am now in talks with several developers interested so we'll see what happens

    Keep in touch
