The quest for a complete, free, accessible and open source software for events continues. Recently at BarCampLondon 4 I had an interesting chat with fellow campers on how to proceed. You can have a look below.

As always you are more than welcome to leave your comment.

I’m involved with a number of science-fiction conventions and we’re always having to roll our own systems for running events. They tend to be the same systems we’ve been using for 10 years and don’t have anywhere near the functionality that’s necessary. An Open Source option is one of those things I spend forever looking for.

The best system I’ve come across so far is the one we use for the Discworld Convention (http://dwcon.org) created by Quirm.net

It handles membership (including one person registering on behalf of several people), accommodation (we only use one hotel however), programme scheduling and more. Perhaps you could get in touch with them about contributing – I know they already produce other stuff under GPL.
